Art All Around

NEW DAY, DANNY GOKEY adjustable strap hat

This is one of my first art projects that I will be sharing with you. I created this hat a few years back and it was a laid back process and a creation I didn’t think would turn out this good. Below you will find my advice and tips on how to make a special hat for yourself or a gift for someone. It’s most enjoyable when you go with the flow as you create something that takes time. But most important, you just need vision and creativity for what you are making.

Alright! Shall we get started? First, let’s mention the supplies you’ll need (you can get your own brand of hats and markers). The hats you can find on Amazon and they also come in bulk. Be sure to stick to a light colored hat so that the markers can be seen. Now for the markers, the most important thing is that they are permanent ink. There are special markers made for fabric that can be found at Walmart. I have used both fabric markers and also sharpie markers (but remember that the ink from the markers will leak, so draw your design lightly and then add another coat). The leaking of the ink can also cause a cool affect on your hat.

There are a few ways you can get started. One is have your design in your head and sketch your design on the hat with a pencil first. (I will tell you that surprisingly it is tough to get pencil off of fabric and lighter markers or even dark ones won’t always fully hide the pencil). The second way is to sketch your design first on a piece of paper and then use that to help you sketch it on your hat. Don’t get stressed or impatient when it takes some time to create something so cool. Do a little at a time if that works best for you. I usually sit down and don’t get up until my creation is finished but breaks can help you focus and have a steady hand. Now, you know what you’ll need and you can now create your design!

“Love Me Like I Am” For King & Country Retro Painting

Want to learn how to make your own?! Read my tips below and get started!

If you're reading this that means you're either considering painting yourself or you're simply interested in how I made this painting. And both are reasonable. So let’s dive into things! First, what you’ll need for painting is pretty simple. First, a medium canvas, then you’ll need your chosen paint colors, paint brushes, a cup of water, napkins and a towel to keep under your paint project. (Please create your own painting if you’d like because that is how you find your own style of art. But if you would like to make a relic of my painting, you are more than welcome). But you can choose your favorite artist, band, or scripture to put over your background. Now it's time to go a little deeper and share some tips. First pick a background (use a picture to help you copy it). I used the album picture to create my background. You can do a beach, mountains, or a river.

One thing you wanna keep in mind, don’t create something beautiful and keep adding more to make it greater. I did this and it usually didn’t get any better. I had to keep redoing the desert in my painting because I I tried to paint over the lines in the sand, thinking they would show through but instead the paint covered them and then the color of the sand was too dark. I had to keep trying to fix it. Sometimes it’s better to go with the flow. Let this help you destress and not get you frustrated. This took me around four hours to complete and it took patience but it was worth it I promise. Some tips (that I learned the hard way)

1 when you start giving out of room on your painting for your chosen lyrics or words, make some sentences smaller and squeeze them in neatly. (I used a stencil sheet for most of my lyrics to get them real neat and a sharpie marker).

2 Keep your background lighter so the wording will show up or use very shiny markers to help them stand out.

3 Choose lyrics or scripture that inspire you. Something that will make you smile when you see it hanging on your wall or sitting on your desk.

4 And lastly, find a good place to work on your painting. Maybe on an old table or on a shaded outdoor table. I chose to work on mine on my deck in the Georgia sun and it was very hot. But I like the the sunshine. (but if you work on it in the sun, be warned it is very hard to wipe up mistakes on your canvas because the paint dries fast. Keep your paints out of the sun!

I think we’re rapping things up now. I hoped my tips help you and that you enjoy creating a masterpiece. Sometimes in life you can go with your gut but when painting, go with your heart and trust the creativity that God has given you. Honer Him in your art work. I am thankful God has given me a joy and love for creating art projects and encouraging lyrics to include in my painting. I hope you have enjoyed reading this and gain confidence to paint your own canvas. You’ve got this! God Bless!
