Guard Your Heart

As young adults, one of the topics we find entering our life is love. We all want to be loved. But the only love God wants for us is a pure love. In this world there is those that have evil desires and that is not love. The Bible says to ‘Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life’ -Proverbs 4:23. This verse certainly is accurate and especially in this day in time where you feel as if you can’t trust anyone that you don’t know. But for me, it is easy to think of guarding my heart as putting up a wall. I think of this verse as good advice for dating. When God says guard your heart, he doesn’t mean avoid getting to know that person that interests you, He is encouraging us to get to know them before we just trust them with our hearts. He wants us to guard our hearts so that we don’t fall for what the world calls love. God has something more for us. For the ladies, I know it can be hard to be confident in yourself when waiting on a guy to show interest but we have to remember, it takes time for the guy to get up the nerve to even talk to us. I have a hard time putting up a wall any time a guy shows interest. I am learning that God wants me to guard my heart but not hide behind a wall. I have experienced the feeling of abandonment and so often I believe that I am afraid to open up in fear of experiencing that again. But what a journey I have been on and I know God is teaching me to be confident in who I am. God wants each of us to be confident in who we are. So y’all, guard your hearts but don’t put up a wall. Believe in who God made you to be.
